Miami, Revisited
I’ve written about my last business trip to Miami, which was sometime in the winter of 2016. It should have been a great getaway in the winter, and the work obligation I was there for was cancelled after I arrived, so it would have been the perfect time to explore something new that evening, but instead I lost myself in a buzzy blur.
This time around I found a hotel with a sauna and cold pool, which I thought would provide the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day. Naive as I am, I didn’t realize that it was more of a party hotel than a business traveler hotel, so I looked like I was there to audit the place while dance music played, and other guests roamed around in bikinis and speedos. There was not even a desk in the room, so I had to rearrange the night table and other furniture to create a workspace. But I still enjoyed the sun, got out for sunrise jogs in the morning along the beach, and was able to unwind for at least a few minutes in the sauna and cold pool at night. I’d never actually been on the beach on any past business trip to Miami, and the sun and sauna visits were exactly the sort of mid-winter boost I needed.
